Every rumor in the HoopsHype archive carries an attribution: the reporter or outlet that originally reported it. Counting those attributions gives a straightforward measure of who is actually sourcing NBA news, rather than who is loudest about it.
Methodology: the leaderboard counts citations, not scoops. Being cited does not establish that a reporter was first to a story, only that the archived item was attributed to them. A reporter cited 40 times in a month has been the origin point for 40 separate items that HoopsHype archived. Use the period filters to see who is being cited most right now versus who has the deepest back catalogue, and open any reporter for their teams, players and month-by-month activity.
